On March 17, 2017 at 4:54 pm, the Glendale Police Department and the Glendale Fire Department responded to the intersection of Pacific Avenue and Pioneer Drive regarding a bicyclist that was struck by a vehicle. Glendale officers arrived on scene and immediately administered first aid and a tourniquet. The Glendale Fire Department arrived on scene shortly after and continued medical attention.
The victim, a 50 year old male resident of Glendale, was transported to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center with severe injuries. The 36 year old male driver of Valley Village was evaluated at the scene and was determined to not be impaired.
The preliminary investigation by the Glendale Police Department Traffic Investigators indicates the bicycle rider was at fault. The cyclist was northbound Pacific and turned westbound onto Pioneer in front of a BMW sedan traveling southbound on Pacific.
The collision remains under investigation by the traffic investigators.
